I have allocated 32 groups in a cohort, each with 3 or 4 members. How can I efficiently have class members self establish a numbered discussion group inside the Canvas Discussion menu function?
Go to the People tab and create Groups. You'll have to create the groups and move students into them. Once you've done that, you can keep using the same groups for the rest of the course.
Then when you create a new Discussion, you'll check the box to make it a Group Discussion. The students will then only see their group members' replies.
It's very easy to set all of this up.
Hello @DavidWNg
In addition to what @SusanNiemeyer has said, it sounds like you want the students to be able to make their own discussion posts within their groups. If that is the case, then you'll want to enable this feature within course settings:
How do I allow students to create a course discuss... - Instructure Community
Also this is a good resource for students if you are going to regularly have them do group work:
Groups Overview (Students) - Instructure Community .
I am working on utilizing the new Portfolio feature for our review of evidence in the practicum experience. Limitations we have come across are that multiple instructors within a course are not able to see the portfolio, only the instructor who created it. Is this something that will be available in the future? Or is there…
It is possible to import tags or other metadata when importing in a QTI file? I've tried everything I can think of, but it seems to get stripped out every time. Are any metadata types allowed? I can bring in a batch of tags questions or manually tag each one. Tagging each one is not an option. I'm using New Quizzes, so I…
Is there a setting where I can hide my students grade summaries on the dashboard but keep the individual category grades visible for them on their main grade page? I'll describe a little below. I want the overall course grade to be hidden from my course image on the students' dashboard with all their other courses, but I…
Hi everyone We recently deployed the new Microsoft LTI in Canvas and have started using the option to create Microsoft Education assignments directly from Canvas. So far, the setup has been very easy and user-friendly. Unfortunately, we've run into a problem: when we try to change the due date of an assignment after it has…
I'm testing whether Mastery Paths can be used to give students early access to an item based on their score, while making the same item available to everyone else on a later date. Here is my setup: A 4-point assignment is the source for the Mastery Path. Students scoring 75–100% are assigned a Solutions item. The Solutions…
