Can you provide more details about what you're trying to do? Are you trying to configure the open source Canvas. You mention DNS, which is generally handled by Instructure for paid Canvas instances, so I'm a bit confused about the question. You also mention creating customer records, and I'm not sure if you mean just creating Canvas users or something else. I'd say that Canvas isn't really designed to be a record repository, but you may mean something different when you use that term.
