Canvas Quiz Essay answered but not visible and says UNANSWERED in SpeedGrader.

I'm a support tech investigating a Quiz answer not showing issue.

Students answered Quiz Essay questions but in SpeedGrader it shows the red UNANSWERED. Students are getting marked zero when the answer is there, but unseen. 

When you View Logs > click on #16 for example for the question, you can see the html which shows a student answer.

In one case there is a tag added at the end

in another similar case, i.e. Quiz Essay UNANSWERED in SpeedGrader, you can again see the answer in the View Logs > click on blue number e.g #14

Thanks for posting this in the Global Canvas Community! 

That sounds very odd! Without being able to take a look at your specific example, I would not be able to determine what might be causing that to happen. 

If it shows in the quiz log, but not in speedgrader, it could be that the user might not have submitted to the essay question correctly. I have seen something similar to this once with a student who had the quiz open on two devices (Laptop and phone). 

If you haven't already, I would have Canvas support take a look and see if they can determine why that happened. They would just need to get a link to the quiz and the name of the user that you were seeing this with.
