Can New Quizzes please allow partial credit on these types of questions? It frustrates students and I spend way too much time going back through them to award points.
Hi @ReneeNicholls
In a quick review of Idea Conversations in this Community (I know, not the most intuitive name for that function), I found the following idea conversation: Partial credit for matching, categorization and sorting question types in Quizzes Next.
Check it out, add your comments, and rate the idea is you desire.
Good luck,

Thanks to everyone who has participated in this thread. New Quizzes: Partial Credit for Matching Questions is currently in development, so please subscribe to the thread to receive updates.
I would also like to have partial credit given on matching questions, and I agree it is tedious to have to go back and change.
How has partial credit for categorization questions STILL not been addressed? This makes New Quizzes virtually useless to me. What is even the point of having new tools if basic functionality isn't there. Its like buying a new car, then realizing it doesn't turn left, it only turns right. But hey, it has a nice sound system.
1,558 days since this was first requested. I'm still waiting... ð
It's now 1,774 days since this was requested. Canvas!!!! Who thought all or nothing is the best way to grade this? And since it is all or nothing, why can we change the value of the question?
I haven't used that question type in a while, so I thought I would try it. 2 Categories, 3 things in each: So I made it worth 6 points. a student put 5 of them in the right spots, then comes up after the quiz and incredulously shows me 0/6. It was the only mistake they made on their quiz. I had to reassure them that they would get the points for the knowledge they showed. Their grade before I gave partial credit was in the 70s. After I gave partial credit it was a 96.%
Other question types can get partial credit, so why not categorization?
Yeah, wow, I just rediscovered this problem. I redid some quiz questions thinking "these would work much better as a sorting question"… yeah, no. Now I'm having to go back through and hand-award partial credit. I guess this is why I never used sorting and category questions.
Has anyone had a chance to try this with a Canvas quiz? Seems it may have a similar effect as ChatGPT Atlas able to provide all the answers to an open Quiz. https://www.theregister.com/2026/03/05/microsoft_adds_a_sidepane_for/
When you are creating a quiz and/or also reviewing a quiz in Canvas after the class has taken it, the questions aren't numbered so after you get past the first few questions, there is no way to even tell what number you are on. Can someone change that?
Speedgrader chaning file name when being downloaded. Speedgrader: When downloading a submitted assignment, the file name is being changed to an unrecognizable name — (Student's actual name was part of the file name — changed for privacy.) Ideas???
We are all familiar with the standard Course Calendar, where assignment due dates are automatically added. However, at my institution, we structure our assignments as Challenges that develop over a period of time, rather than just a single deadline. Currently, the calendar only highlights the "end point." It would be a…
The current placement of the "Submit" button creates a "slip" in user behavior where habit-clicking "Next" leads to an accidental final submission. I think Canvas could easily fix this by: Moving the Submit button away from the navigation buttons (maybe above the question instead of below it) and/or Adding a "Confirm…
