Fudge Points Option (Canvas Quizzes)

I am an instructor at MDC with a question (concern) regarding the "fudge points" option on the Canvas quizzes given that the term "fudge" has a connotation of dishonest manipulation or unethical assessing. We know that if we instructors word a question ambiguously or make any instructional error, we may have to compensate students by manually adjusting the grade, but the word "fudge" is the problem as it is not regarded in academia as an ethical term. I reported my concern to Canvas Support, and I was advised to bring the issue to the Canvas community as an idea suggestion.

I don't have a problem with the word fudge as it brings a sweet sticky confection to mind.

More seriously, the need for an informal adjustment fits well with the notion of articulation work, which most of this community undertakes, which is the bricolage undertaken to make social practice work with fixed algorhithms.

'Fudge' is one of the more polite terms for this process, and to be fair, it does capture the element of semi official manipulation which is usually not formally prescribed, accounted for or well documented …..
