Can you limit KEYBOARD access in Canvas Quizzes

Ok, a weird one for today (or maybe not weird?).

Our students have found a new way to cheat - they are taking pictures of their study guide or other resources and then turning that image into an emoji. Then, when they are in a quiz - even using LockDown browser - they just switch to the emoji keyboard and can see that image of their study resource. I am not even sure how they see the image it must be so small 🤦‍♀️.

Has anyone else experienced this? Done any troubleshooting on this? Can you limit access to keyboards while in Canvas Quizzes (with LockDown Browser)? My thought would be wondering if it makes a difference to always do "one question at a time"?

We are on iPads and they are using Safari to access the LockDown Browser.

Wild and new… but probably not as weird as it at first sounds.

Maybe I'm not fully understanding what students are doing, but the emoji keyboard on iPads is an OS-level feature, not a browser-level one, so my gut reaction of thinking of a custom JS option is out the window. On top of this, the things I would  probably aim for like detecting focus loss, disabling input fields, etc. are what the LockDown browser already does…

Maybe report this to Respondus directly so they know this specific exploit exists.

One question at a time or shuffled answers are probably only speed bumps, but worth a look—especially in addition to "authentic assessments" as much as possible.

@KatGorringe Are your iPads by any chance managed through JAMF or some other mobile device management system? If so, you may want to check there to see if there's a way to disable emoji keyboards. Hope this helps!
