The original posts on this were a couple of years back and my own views, and currently unmet need, hasn't changed from that below.
Problem - we have Community sites corresponding to the Award title, where we wish to present different aspects of the Course and Institution in two ways
i) as individual menu items / pages in Modules view
ii) as a home page (or is it front page….) with the same set of pages embedded in a single page to view.
In principle this embedding can be achieved by using iframes back to those pages, however, the overhead for this is that as well as displaying/rendering the page content, Canvas also re-presents the right side menu accompanying the page content. This means that students need to be savvy enough to hit the burger and toggle off the side menu to avoid the 'hall of mirrors' effect.
There are alternatives eg.
- adding the content as html files (an additional layer of complication for staff)
- storing the pages 'off Canvas' - for example in our library system, from where Canvas will happily present the page and not the menus (but its less fuss to be able to keep it in Canvas)
The further frustration is that for external links, Canvas does not, sadly, offer 'Preview inline' or 'open in a new tab', but of which are as desirable for external links as they are for assets stored in Canvas.
Has anyone found a solution for either of these that they are willing to share ?
Many thanks
Paul
