Today, we’re excited to announce the first phase of the IgniteAI Agent release.
This release marks an important step toward making AI a trusted, in-context assistant inside Canvas, grounded in real workflows and designed with institutional needs in mind.
Where It’s Available
This release makes the IgniteAI Agent available for admins in:
- United States
- Customers in Latin America who host in the United States
Why We’re Starting With Admins
We’re intentionally rolling out Agent access to administrators first.
Admins play a critical role in setting policy, guiding adoption, and ensuring AI aligns with institutional standards around privacy, security, and outcomes. Starting here allows institutions to:
- Understand top use cases for the Agent
- Configure access thoughtfully
- Plan for longer-term educator access
We’re planning to expand access to educators in late February. As with all Feature Options, educators will only be able to enable it if their admin has granted permission for their instance.
How to Enable IgniteAI Agent
Account admins can enable the Agent via Feature Options. See guides on how to enable feature options and set permissions for account-level roles – you’ll need to follow both sets of instructions to start using the Agent.
Pricing and Availability
As we shared during November’s New & Next Showcase, the Agent will be free to use for US-based customers through June 30, 2026. We plan to release it to additional regions in the coming months with free access for customers outside the US extended through September 30, 2026.
This gives institutions time to explore real use cases, gather feedback, and evaluate impact without pressure.

What It Can’t Do (Yet)
There are some limitations that we’re aware of and have plans to address:
- It can’t work directly with uploaded or external content.
- The Agent can’t yet process uploaded files or pull in information from outside your Canvas environment. It also does not provide real-time or external web information.
- It can’t execute complex workflows in bulk
- While the Agent can complete individual or scoped actions, it doesn’t yet support multi-step operations across large sets of content or courses in a single request.
- It can’t understand on-screen or in-the-moment context
- The Agent knows what course you’re in, but it does not know which page you currently have open or what you are viewing in real time. Prompts should always specify assignment, page or discussion to act on.
Here’s a resource with a full list of what it can’t do (some limitations are intentional, while others are features that still need development).

This launch is an important milestone, but it’s not the finish line. The Agent will continue to evolve based on your feedback, real-world usage, and the needs of educators and institutions.
We’re excited to build what’s next together.
