Searching for files - I need the location

I sometimes need to search for a file on Canvas so I can rename it or move it to a specific folder. The 'search' facility' is useless because it doesn't tell me the location of the file -i.e. which folder it is in. Is there any way of getting this basic information - the Panda Bot AI assistant suggested clicking on the folders one by one! A things stand, I have to download the file, make changes, then reupload it to the correct folder, which is a waste of time.

I'm not sure if your school has purchased this product or not, but I believe that TidyUP from Cidi Labs might help. TidyUP is a file clean up tool, but I believe that it also includes a search where you can tell the location of the file within your course "Files". It's been a while since I've used TidyUP, so I'm telling you this based on my memory from a few years back.

If you do not have this product, you might consider talking with your school's Canvas administrator to see if purchasing this might be an option in the future. Even thought it's a third-party integration with Canvas, I think it would work for your needs.

Also, I'm not sure if your school has purchased Simple Prep or not (from the same people who make Simple Syllabus), but there is a new file clean up tool in Simple Prep, too. It's sort of like TidyUP, but just a different interface.

I hope this might help in some way.

Thanks for responding. Unfortunately my organisation doesn't subscribe to either of those add-ons, and I don't see it happening.

It is annoying that such a basic feature is absent from the UI, but perhaps not surprising…
