Need a restriction for Teacher Course roles - restrict course imports on same courses / restrict course imports that would overwrite student grades, submissions, and quiz/discussion content

We had a situation where an instructor meant to import their course content into next terms course but accidentally imported the content onto the same course thus wiping out all the student grades, submissions, quiz data, and discussion prompt content. I was able to download the content from the Beta Environment, but there needs to be a permission restriction so teachers cannot do this by accident or there's a way to restore a previous version of the course with the submission, page view and interaction data intact. Canvas Support said there is no way to fully restore the course with the student data and grading work intact.

I agree that some kind of "restore" function would be a great idea for situations like the one you've described. I recently had a situation similar (though not exactly the same) come up with one of our staff, and I was going also use the "beta" environment, but we ended up using a different solution.

I'm not sure if you are aware or not, but the entire feature idea process is still on hold until the Canvas Community Managers reveal the new process here in the new Community site. I'm not exactly sure when that will happen, however. I would suggest that, for now, you reach out to your school's assigned Customer Success Manager. If you are not a Canvas administrator, contact that person at your school and let him/her know about your suggestion so that he/she can pass along the information to the CSM.
