How to export late gradebooks that identify late submissions

Hi, I can filter live in the gradebook to see late submissions but when I export it, it doesn't pull through to the data. I want to know if late submissions have a trend in our summative assessment results. 

Can I pull a report that shows late submissions?

If you go to Course Analytics > Reports, there is a Late Assignments report. It isn't realtime, with a several hour latency, but it's the fastest way to get the report of which assignments are late. It has the assignment name, but not ID, so as long as your assignments all have unique names, it can be used to match up with the gradebook export.

Unfortunately, the dates come through in a human-friendly form and Excel doesn't recognize as dates. That means you cannot just subtract the due date from the submitted date to tell how late it is.

That would need done for each course that you wanted to look at.

 

Iterating through a list of courses is probably better done using the API than manually going into each course. This has the benefit of not using stale data.

The Analytics API has a get course-level assignment data and get course-level student summary data endpoints. The assignment one tells you want percent of students turned in an assignment on-time, late, or are missing. The student-level one gives you the percentage of assignments that are on-time, late, or missing for each student.

You can probably get at this through the submissions records as well. The information in the gradebook comes from the submission records. You would get one record for each assignment / student pair and then do calculations to tabulate the values you want. This is the raw data that everything else comes from. It's just that the others provide summaries of this data.
