adding a 2nd student to the canvas profile

I see other comments and have followed the solution to adding a second student. However, where does the pairing code come from. I have not received one from any of the teachers and when I asked them during Back to School night, the teachers were unaware of how to generate a pairing code. The other students I am trying to add are elementary school students.

@cara6 I just realized - I think you're referencing a user pairing code, not a course one. A student pairing code comes from the user account settings on the student's account. You can check out this guide here for more information about generating pairing codes for an observer. How do I generate a pairing code for an observer as a student?

You can generate a pairing code from the course settings. How do I enable course self-enrollment with a join code or secret URL?

If you do not see an option for a join code, then this setting has been disabled by your school's admin and you'll need to reach out to them for assistance.
