we provide students with exemplars to aid them in their assessment, but we don't want them to be able to download the documents. Can we do this?
Generally it's difficult to stop someone from downloading a document that's online, as even if it's a page without a download button, the viewer can usually "print it as a PDF", or at least take a screenshot (maybe LockDown browser can stop that, but I don't know).
Treat any file published in Canvas as something students might be able to download, as they can be accessed by guessing the file ID (unless the file is in an unpublished module).
There's probably a solution (that would make it very difficult, but probably not impossible to download) involving an iframe and an external service, but it's not likely to be accessible.
Hi @MarciaPRIOR ,
@Gabriel33 is correct, you are not able to prohibit students from downloading documents and files.
A possible alternative would be to embed the document using Google or another platform, but even then, as Gabriel mentioned, students can still take screenshots or screen record. So unfortunately it's kind of difficult to fully stop students from saving these documents themselves.
The most recent quizzes and question banks (including renames) are not showing up as options in the Course Import Tool. As I was creating a new quiz in one course (Classic), I went to add the questions from the Question Bank, but what I needed wasn't there. I went back to the other course to make sure everything was…
In the wake of the recent Canvas security incident, many higher‑education instructors are rethinking how they protect their course materials and ensure continuity for students if the LMS becomes unavailable. A common question we’re hearing is how to effectively back up courses “just in case,” especially with an eye toward…
Hi all, Quick question about the Gradebook color status for a 2-part checkpoint discussion. If a student completes the first due date (initial post) but does not complete the required replies by the second due date, is there any way for Canvas to automatically show a color (e.g., missing/late) instead of staying as…
Canvas Portfolios provide a powerful platform for students to document their learning journey, reflect on their progress, and showcase competencies. However, in programs where multiple educators are involved in assessment—such as team teaching, moderation, or competency-based evaluation—there are important questions about…
Hi There, We are in the process of transitioning to Canvas this year and were wanting to connect with any other MYP schools to see how you setup Assignment and grading under your modules. Or you could guide us to any resources you may have.
