Any Thoughts About New Quizzes Activity Logs?

I am a Canvas Administrator for Ball State University. In reviewing the Deploy/Release Notes, I am thinking about how I want to frame the use of the Activity Logs for New Quizzes. The new functionality will allow certain roles to view the IP addresses of students. I'm considering what recommendations to make to our IT partners about this setting, as it opens up some privacy concerns, which are always top of mind for students.

Does anyone else have any thoughts or would like to share what kinds of recommendations you are making around privacy at your institution?

You're right that this is definitely a tricky issue for both privacy and accuracy/interpretation of the data. On one hand, having information to help detect and curb academic integrity issues is a good thing. On the other hand, Instructure always says not to use the logs to determine if students are cheating. As a Canvas admin and tech person in general, I know there will be many different ways the system mis-identifies things, but also know that in general it will probably be pretty accurate...

Where does that leave us with this new feature though??? Right now, we're thinking it may be better as something only admins can see. We can let faculty know they they can ask us for an opinion on data if thy suspect cheating, and we can use out judgement when we review the data and communicate back to faculty (including all of the caveats). This approach may or may not work for others depending on the size of your school, support staff, and general stance on looking and providing opinions on logs though.

I hope others will chime in here with their different approaches to this too!
