How does a student download lockdown browser needed for a quiz when it does not appear in the menu on the Canvas home page?
Hi @LauraDiPietro1,
When Respondus LockDown Browser is used with a Canvas quiz, after the student clicks on the "Take the Quiz" button, the student will be presented with a notice that Respondus LockDown Browser is required and it will include a download link. The message will look something like what is provided below.
The download link will be specific to your institution. If the student is using a Chromebook, they will be directed to the Chrome web store. If the student is using an iPad, a webpage will appear with additional information and a link to download the app from Apple's App Store.
Since the download link is specific to each institution (with the exception of the downloading for a Chromebook or an iPad), some institutions will share the download link with their faculty and students, posting it in a central location for everyone to find.
Does this help you?

Hey @LauraDiPietro1
If the LockDown Browser isn’t showing up in the Canvas menu, there are a couple of things you can try. First, check if your instructor has posted a link or instructions for downloading it somewhere in the course (like in the Announcements or a module).
If it’s not there, you can visit the LockDown Browser download page directly. Just search for “LockDown Browser download” in your browser, and it should take you to the right place where you can download it for your computer.
Let me know if that works or if you need help finding the link!
Among all the things that I wish Canvas had is that one! Is it something that is been worked on? We had it in Blackboard (legacy) and I sorely miss and need in Canvas (we just transitioned to it from Bb). Please add this very needed feature!
I have Canvas set to drop the lowest quiz score, however, my students can only barely tell that the grade text is slightly grey when dropped. Can it have a tag like the "missing" and "exempt" ones in the student gradebook?
My Canvas shell has three different sections that all meet at different times throughout the week. I need to be able to batch edit assignment due dates by section, but right now Canvas can't filter by section for batch edit. My only option is now to manually (tediously) edit due dates for each assignment individually.
Morning! One of the more frustrating aspects of Canvas are groups and the issues that show up when copying courses that have them. But now we have yet another issue. Most recently we have had instances where people mark an assignment/discussion as a group assignment but then do not link the discussion or assignment to any…
So, we have encountered a few assignments where the Speedgrader presents the teacher with the "Empty Course" page, even though the course is not empty. I have discovered two New Quizzes in the same course where this has occurred, despite multiple students being assigned (at Module level, which passes the permission down to…
