How can I create an orientation course with Canvas?

I'm looking to create an orientation course for 200-300 new students who join my institute. We have 2 campuses, and two intakes each year.

 

Our orientation course currently runs for over two weeks, but I want to extend it for up to a month and spread out activities over a few days.

 

Can I do this with Canvas?

The short answer to this is "yes".

The longer answer is that there are two main parts:

1. You (or someone else) would need to design a course that shows your students how to use Canvas and it would be best if you incorporate text, images/screenshots, videos / screen recordings, and opportunity to use the Canvas functionality that they would be expected to use. At this time, you would also set the due/until dates and course dates (I would recommend leaving it open for a longer period of time, even if the due/until dates are shorter).
2. The second step, is that you (or someone else) would need to enroll the 200-300 people into the course as students.  The enrollment could happen either by creating and uploading a CSV enrollment file or by adding them from within the "People" area of the course.

There are other aspects to consider with this but those would ultimately fall under those two main parts.
