Inactive students are receiving course notifications

The inactive students in a canvas course are receiving course emails like the one below:

They seem to be automated emails created by the instructor.

How is this possible if they are inactive in the course?

Hi @awashington06,

Inactive students shouldn't, as far as I know, receive any course notifications.  Are you sure the student is inactive, and not enrolled in multiple sections (or with multiple roles)?  If that's not the case, I'd definitely suggest that you reach out to Canvas support to report this.
