I downloaded the canvas app for my windows computer. When I search for my school URL, it opens in a webpage rather than the app. Am I able to log into my school URL on the app?
Hi @AunnaMaschek
I'm not aware of a Canvas Student or Teacher app for Windows. The only app information I see is for iOS and Android apps:

Where did you find this Windows Canvas app that you installed?
I too found this app (and just wish I could remember how or where). It works as a Chrome extension and provides an icon that you can load to the task bar so you do not need to save a new Chrome profile or bookmark to get into the website. So far I have not seen any issues but would love to know where I found it so that I can show it to others.
Yeah I have this app / chrome extension, on my old laptop. It opens and displays differently than chrome, canvas icon on desktop and taskbar. I want to get it on my new laptop but I have no idea where or how I got it in the first place.
Just to add a bit of additional info to this thread...
There is no official Canvas app for anything but iOS/iPadOS and Android. The app being discussed here is really just web browsers doing some what I'll call "trickery" to make something that appears like an app but is really just opening a special version of the browser to the Canvas website.
Personally, I wouldn't recommend this app method because if becomes very unclear what browser is being used, whether it's being updated, etc. The easiest way to access Canvas, again in my opinion, is to save it as a favorite in whatever your favorite web browser is. Again, this is just my own recommendation, and I know it will make things more complicated for some users. I think the most important thing for everyone to know is that Canvas is really a website/web service that can be accessed almost anywhere by a variety of devices as long as they are updated, have an internet connection, and a web browser.
Hope this helps a bit!

For anyone who finds this thread, the "Canvas app" can be built using most browsers, e.g. Edge, Chrome. The feature turns any webpage into a PWA, and if you search "install page as app chrome" you will find instructions. All it does is open the webpage in its own native window, making it like an app.
Hoping someone can explain for me. We're using pacing to avoid manually dating regular assignments each quarter, but the dates I see are based on when the course was instantiated, while students see dates based on when they were added to the course by [backend software I don't know anything about, presumably]. If I set…
Has anyone else had issues with an influx of duplicate users in Canvas? Ours is currently in the form of an email that already exists, becoming a new user - and not automatically merging with the user ID with the same email that also is linked to our SIS ID correctly as well. For example, user 1 is xyz@gmail.com without a…
Canvas Portfolios provide a powerful platform for students to document their learning journey, reflect on their progress, and showcase competencies. However, in programs where multiple educators are involved in assessment—such as team teaching, moderation, or competency-based evaluation—there are important questions about…
I wonder if others have had this response, but I think it is troubling messaging for students that, no matter how well they may do on an assignment, they are given a signal that anything below a perfect score should be marked/denoted with a red color, as if those grades are poor, or even lesser. I think it is harmful for…
I have a student that was in a tag called "ac" and recently moved him to a different tag, "AC." I did ensure the old tag was removed; however on a canvas PAGE he sees both pages the "ac" and "AC" Canvas Pages. I removed the assigned tags to the page and the one tag to the student thinking maybe if I remove and reassign…
