Confusion about File Upload Limits

Hello, I am looking for clarity around the maximum size of files/videos that students can upload.

The bot stated, "For the regular Canvas course, the default storage quota for course files is 500 MB. This means that the total size of all files uploaded by students in the course should not exceed 500 MB. However, it's important to note that student assignment submissions are not counted toward the user quota."

I don't quite understand as it says the size of files uploaded by students should not exceed 500 MB, but also that their assignment submissions are not counted toward the user quota.

We have an assignment at the beginning of the course where students upload a video sharing about themselves and their communities, and this video tends to be 3-5 minutes long. At the end of our course, we have a final presentation assignment where they have to submit a recorded video of them giving a presentation on what they learned, which can be 7-10 minutes. Is this possible? If not is it possible with the Premium Canvas LMS?

Can you please describe the process that your students are taking to record and/or upload their video to the assignment within the course?  If they are using something like the Rich Content Editor (RCE) and the tool to upload media (such as a video), I don't believe that would count against the total.

All users (students, instructors, etc.) have a personal "Files" section in Canvas ... which you can find via "Account" >> "Files".  By default, users get 50 MB of file storage space.  However, within a person's user "Files", they will find a "Submissions" folder with a tiny padlock icon on it.  This is where files submitted as part of assignment attachments are stored.  So, when students submit their work as part of your assignment, those files are not counted towards their limit of 50 MB in their user "Files".  You might want to review the following Guides:

The bot is correct that each course comes with 500 MB of course storage.  It sounds like you are using the Free For Teacher (FFT) version of Canvas located at https://canvas.instructure.com.  Unfortunately, this total cannot be changed.  This 500 MB is referring to the "Files" area of your course (by clicking on the "Files" course navigation menu item on the left side of your Canvas course.  This area is for you to upload any files you want to use for your course.  Students are not able to upload files to this area, and student submissions are not stored here whatsoever.

So, getting back to your question about video submissions from your students...it would be interesting to know how you are asking your students to submit these to you.  If you could outline this process, I think that would be helpful.
