It sounds like you are trying to enroll your professor's Canvas user in your course, @PaulaKlapesky. How to do that is best answered by your local IT team and/or Canvas administrators, as they will know the authentication procedures for users. If you were at my college, for example, you would use the employee ID number instead of the email address because that is the unique identifier for users in our system.
