Your posting sounds a lot like a Feature Idea to enhance the Canvas experience. For a few more days, all Feature ideas (including the creation, commenting, and star ratings) are disabled temporarily. This will return at the beginning of February per this document: Idea Conversations: The Path Forward. So, if you can hold off for a few more days, you can then either submit this as a brand new Feature Idea...or if you happen to find an existing Feature Idea that is similar to what you're already suggesting, you can participate in that conversation instead.

We are all familiar with the standard Course Calendar, where assignment due dates are automatically added.
