I'm assuming that you are an instructor. There are a couple different methods on how to attach a file such as a Word document or a PDF file to a content page in your course. These methods are both outlined here:

Just to add to @Chris_Hofer's great explanation, in Canvas, we don't use the verb "attach." when we are creating Canvas Pages and other content. Instead, we "upload" and "embed" content from other sources.
