Is it possible to update the reporting to show time in course instead of page views? This is a need for many schools for state attendance reporting.
Hi @TracyHarelson,
I think that would need to be a feature request, though the feature request process is currently being redesigned and will hopefully reopen next month.
From my perspective as a higher-ed Canvas admin, the estimated time in course (on the people page), is wildly inaccurate in most cases and I'd almost prefer that it not even be shown at all. I do understand there may be some requirements for this, though I think those requirements are usually drafted more for in-person and don't consider online education as much. All a student has to do is leave a page on their computer open for a few hours, then come back and do some more things in Canvas, and the time will make it seem like they were doing fork for 3-4 hours when it may have been only 10 minutes. I wish there was. abetter way to measure that stat to be more accurate, but I think that task is next to impossible... Maybe the student was watching a video embedded on a page for 2 hours, or maybe they were playing minecraft on their phone. Who knows!? This is a one of the huge challenges for online education, in my opinion.

Hello, I'm writing to see if anyone else has noticed this change in Canvas and can explain when and why it happened. I can't find anything in the release notes about it, and Canvas support says it is "intended." Checkpoints in student view previously displayed directly below and slightly indented from the discussion forum,…
My school district has changed our required Learning Outcomes for all of our courses for this school year. How can I archive the 400+ Learning Outcomes we used last school year so they're still linked to our 25-26 courses but teachers can't use them in 26-27 courses going forward?
Hoping someone can explain for me. We're using pacing to avoid manually dating regular assignments each quarter, but the dates I see are based on when the course was instantiated, while students see dates based on when they were added to the course by [backend software I don't know anything about, presumably]. If I set…
Has anyone else had issues with an influx of duplicate users in Canvas? Ours is currently in the form of an email that already exists, becoming a new user - and not automatically merging with the user ID with the same email that also is linked to our SIS ID correctly as well. For example, user 1 is xyz@gmail.com without a…
Canvas Portfolios provide a powerful platform for students to document their learning journey, reflect on their progress, and showcase competencies. However, in programs where multiple educators are involved in assessment—such as team teaching, moderation, or competency-based evaluation—there are important questions about…
