Canvas user profiles are first "users" within your school's Canvas environment. Then, you are assigned the role of a "student" or "teacher" at the course level. I would recommend reaching out to your Canvas administrator at Garland Independent School District. That person should be able to help you get your role(s) configured properly in your Canvas course(s).
