Not sure how to submit this as a function, but it would be useful if there were levels of Lateness and the ability to not that in Attendance. 5 minutes late has a different impact on a students attendance than being an hour late! Also when I student leaves class early, I would like to be able to note that as well. Thanks.
Release notes outline upcoming customer-impacting changes that are expected to be displayed in production environments. Please note that features considered for future development are not included in the notes. [info callout] Unless otherwise stated, all features in this release are available in the Production environment…
I wanted to get a sense of how others are feeling about the change to the Beta refresh schedule moving from weekly to every 21 days. I’ll be honest, this feels like a pretty short-sighted shift. The weekly refresh is what makes Beta useful for us. It gives us a recent snapshot of production data that we can rely on for…

To improve consistency, observability, and security across Instructure developer platforms, we are announcing two upcoming API changes. Per the Instructure API policy, both changes will take effect 90 days after this announcement, at 2026-07-13. These updates affect: Canvas Live Events Data Access Platform (DAP) Query API…
In the ever-changing milieu of gradebook icons, we are now seeing black exclamation points or stopwatches to the right of some student grades. What do they mean??? Honestly, still having trouble sorting the red exclamation marks on the left and the cross-out eye that somehow doesn't mean "not visible." Now these. I checked…
HTML lists have a sensible default, where the list numbering or bullet style changes as you indent. This is a crucial visual cue to help you understand which level of indention a list item belongs to. For example, an ordered list typically uses numbers for the first level, letters for the second level, etc. Not only is…
No one becomes an educator for the opportunity to partake in the Sunday night grading marathon. While feedback is the core of the learning process, the administrative overhead of manual grading can crowd out the actual time spent focused on lesson planning, lecture prep, or hands-on instruction. IgniteAI offers several…
I'm an admin in our university's Canvas environment and this question has been posed by a couple of our instructors. They're using Differentiation Tags and/or Groups in various courses and need to verify functionality for students via the "View as Student" feature. However, the way this feature works, there isn't an actual…
From the Inbox - I do not see a way to include an accessible link. For example - clicking on the word YouTube(which contains the link) versus https://www.youtube.com/
Hey folks- We are looking for a way to use a Canvas course calendar as a tool for planning and promoting events on our campus. The idea is to have all event producers added to our NSC Event Planning shell where they can add Events to the course calendar and see what else is happening on campus at the same time. Our hope…
We’re excited to unveil our Canvas Collaborative Roadmap, which summarizes our team’s priorities for improving Canvas in response to your needs. Together, these improvements are designed to reduce friction in the workflows educators rely on most, from course setup and content creation to grading, feedback, and learner…
Hello. It was asked of me to investigate the best way to delete/remove/hide older courses from previous terms completely from view of instructors and students. We would like these courses to not show when a user clicks the "All Courses" option to show previous courses that they were a part of. Wondering what other…
[info callout] Engineers are currently investigating the issue. Summary: When a course is in a closed term but the course is setup to use course dates, teachers have full access to create content in the course. This behavior is contradicting what the guide is saying “Course participation dates only affect student and…
Canvas deploys contain code changes that are intended to fix bugs, improve performance, and prepare for new features. These deploys take place every two weeks and can be tested in the beta environment before the production deploy date indicated in the title of this document. [info callout] Unless otherwise stated, all…
A colleague asked me how to reuse the questions from the 14 quizzes he has already created as a large question pool to draw questions from for a cumulative exam. Each of the 14 quizzes has multiple question groups, and none of them was linked to a question bank at the time of creation. The best thing I could find is the…
We are using the Learning Mastery Gradebook with an rubric on account-level. When we enter the gradebook, the sorting does not make any sense. How can we make the sorting so it makes sense to us. It feels like a randam sorting.
Hi, we have noticed some changes in the way Canva docs or files are able to be embedded live. Canva is integrated via LTI 1.3 in our Canvas Has Canvas recently changed how it handles unauthenticated external iframe embeds, specifically for tools like Canva? Are public Canva embed iframes (canva.com/design/.../view?embed)…
Sometimes we have assignments that don't count toward the final grade. While "ungraded" quizzes don't populate in the gradebook, these assignments do - they show up in the gradebook for instructors and for students. This can be confusing. Additionally, I can't seem to find a way to turn on a "points total" in the final…
Rendering bug here: Canvas - Instructure Community Seems to only appear in Edge; fine in Chrome and Firefox https://us.v-cdn.net/6038536/uploads/W3BKB9LY5FCV/recording-2026-04-08-144351.mp4
On the new_quizzes.quizzes table, all of my institution's records have either "unpublished" or "uninitialized" values in the workflow_state column. The documentation for this type lists "published" as a possible value. It seems like all of my institution's published New Quizzes have the "uninitialized" value. What does…
Summary:The Learning Mastery Gradebook allows drag-and-drop reordering of outcome columns, and this triggers a call to /api/v1/courses/:course_id/assign_outcome_order. The API returns 204 No Content (success), but the column order does not persist after page refresh. Steps to Reproduce: Open Learning Mastery Gradebook for…
I have a developer key in our Test instance: How would I use this in a local program to make a REST API call? Looking at https://developerdocs.instructure.com/services/canvas/oauth2/file.developer_keys: Developer keys are OAuth2 client ID and secret pairs stored in Canvas that allow third-party applications to request…
Graded discussions do not appear to be eligible as badge requirements in Blackboard Ultra (only assignments, tests, or modules). Is it possible to use graded discussion forums as triggers for badge awards?
I'm building a tool for my institution that imports grades from another LTI tool into Canvas so instructors can automate late assignment policies not otherwise supported by Canvas. I'm trying to use the LTIv1.3 ID which is readily available on the LTI-side as a link to the student record on Canvas, but I can't find the ID…
