In Canvas grades/gradebook, I have added Notes, but the comments I have added are not showing in the Notes column on the gradebook page. I can see the notes when I go into the individual student and when I download the CSV for the class group.
Hello @PaulineBarker1 ...
I am a little confused by your question. You stated that you have added notes to your Gradebook ... assuming here you've followed the instructions at: How do I use the Notes column in the Gradebook?. Yet, you stated that those notes are not showing on the Notes column of the Gradebook page. I tested this out in my own sandbox course, and the Notes column works as expected.
Can you please help to clarify what might not be working in your course? Maybe provide a screenshot (with student names/grades hidden)...as that might help.
Looking forward to hearing back from you soon!

I concur with @Chris_Hofer - I was looking at it, and I do not see what you are describing - rater I get the opposite. I can see the notes in the gradebook, but not on the individual student grades page. And I do see it in the download. If I go into view and toggle notes off, then I do not see the notes in the gradebook and I do not see them in the export of the gradebook.
I agree with Chris that something strange is going on and we need more information to possibly help.

I am seeing a similar issue. An instructor used the Notes column to store information for later use. However, when the instructor returned to the Gradebook, the Notes column was still visible but there was no content showing in the cells. However, when the Gradebook was exported to a .csv file, the information originally entered in the Notes column was visible. I am putting in a ticket to Canvas support.
Same issue here. All of our previously imputed notes are suddenly gone. The whole notes column is blank in all of our courses. Is there a fix?
I also have this issues. Started today. All the content from the Notes column in all my courses is gone!
Yes, same here. I have the same problem.

This is interesting! I just re-visited my Grades page in my Canvas sandbox course, and I can also reproduce the issue that you all are seeing. The notes that I had entered yesterday are completely gone now from that view, and if I click on a cell for a student, there is no text where I had originally entered text yesterday. When I exported the Grades to a CSV file, the comments were there. I also tried switch back and forth between the current Grades view and the Enhanced Gradebook Filters view to see if that made any difference, but it did not.
I would suggest that you report this to the Canvas Help Desk staff as soon as possible so that you can log a ticket with them. If it is a bug that they need to fix, you'll be updated as soon as a solution is put in place.
I hope this will be of some help! Thanks to everyone who also reported this.
As a workaround I've found you can turn Notes off from the View dropdown, refresh the page, and then turn Notes back on. It seems the majority of our teachers are experiencing this issue.
Same, and toggling the Notes column off and back on seems to be doing the trick. I'm going to send all my faculty an email letting them know about the issue and the quick fix, but this is pretty disruptive for our faculty as they get their end-of-quarter grades entered!
Thank you for this. It's working for me too.
Yep, in the view options drop-down toggle OFFnotes, refresh then toggle ON notes refresh. All better. Ahhh.... thanks!
I'm having the same issue. This must be a recent bug!I entered notes early in our Winter quarter, in the three weeks after Thanksgiving. Now I'm grading over break, and the notes I entered earlier don't show. But turning notes on and off doesn't fix it for me.
You have to turn notes off. Then refresh. Then turn notes back on. They should now appear.Problem is that it doesn't stick and you have to repeat the process every time you go back into the gradebook. At least that is my experience.
Summary:The Learning Mastery Gradebook allows drag-and-drop reordering of outcome columns, and this triggers a call to /api/v1/courses/:course_id/assign_outcome_order. The API returns 204 No Content (success), but the column order does not persist after page refresh. Steps to Reproduce: Open Learning Mastery Gradebook for…
We have enabled the automatic migration of Classic to New Quizzes. When we import QTI files, though, they always fail to load as New Quizzes. If we disabled New Quiz Migration, it works. Why does it only work for Classic Quizzes? Are there any guaranteed tools that will generate QTI files that will import correctly as New…
Is it possible to change the system-wide notification defaults for a hosted Canvas instance? Since I can't find a way to do it, nor any reference to doing it, I'm assuming not but wanted to make sure before I give that as an answer.
Hi everyone, I had a teacher reach out with an odd (and concerning) LockDown Browser issue and wanted to see if others have experienced something similar. A student was taking a quiz using Respondus LockDown Browser on a Chromebook 300e Yoga G4 (8GB), a 2‑in‑1 device that can flip into tablet mode. During the active quiz,…
Hi all, Quick question about the Gradebook color status for a 2-part checkpoint discussion. If a student completes the first due date (initial post) but does not complete the required replies by the second due date, is there any way for Canvas to automatically show a color (e.g., missing/late) instead of staying as…
