All !@%$ has broken loose here. Our instance is showing a ransomware notice to all our users and major components are unusable.
Seems widespread https://www.reddit.com/search/?q=canvas&type=posts&t=hour&

I always do, but was looking here too and couldn't find anything.
It also wasn't showing anything for quite a while, at least 30 minutes.
I totally understand!
Can you clarify how your instance is showing a ransomware notice to all your users? We only see this "Down for Maintenance" notice on ours:
This is what our users were receiving before Instructure posted the redirect.
It was showing the ransomware notice before Instructure took the system down, I'd say from about 4pm EST to 4:45pm EST. Additionally, our authentication providers were disabled and users were being directed to the Canvas-delivered login page.
Exactly so.
Indeed, Instructure's "got trouble, right here in River City, with a capital T" which doesn't rhyme with H for hackers. But I just wanted to quote from The Music Man since the choice is between laughing and crying at this point.
Sure would be nice to get an email about the subject from the company at some point though, as that status update is… weak.
Yes - it's down. The same threat actors have escalated. Acknowledgement of that in the status would be honest.
It's been hours and I
Still not working for us. Is the status update correct?
Update
- Canvas is now available for most users. Canvas Beta and Canvas Test remain in maintenance.

Hi there @ac1918 ,
Yep, a lot of the instances are available, including the ones I use. It may take some additional time for yours to become re-activated.
The most recent quizzes and question banks (including renames) are not showing up as options in the Course Import Tool. As I was creating a new quiz in one course (Classic), I went to add the questions from the Question Bank, but what I needed wasn't there. I went back to the other course to make sure everything was…
In the wake of the recent Canvas security incident, many higher‑education instructors are rethinking how they protect their course materials and ensure continuity for students if the LMS becomes unavailable. A common question we’re hearing is how to effectively back up courses “just in case,” especially with an eye toward…
Hi all, Quick question about the Gradebook color status for a 2-part checkpoint discussion. If a student completes the first due date (initial post) but does not complete the required replies by the second due date, is there any way for Canvas to automatically show a color (e.g., missing/late) instead of staying as…
Canvas Portfolios provide a powerful platform for students to document their learning journey, reflect on their progress, and showcase competencies. However, in programs where multiple educators are involved in assessment—such as team teaching, moderation, or competency-based evaluation—there are important questions about…
Hi There, We are in the process of transitioning to Canvas this year and were wanting to connect with any other MYP schools to see how you setup Assignment and grading under your modules. Or you could guide us to any resources you may have.
