Hello,
I am trying to use our school's Beta site to run an experiment, but multi-factor authentication is not going through. I ask it to send a text code, but I never receive it. And since I can't log in, I can't turn off MFA. Has anyone else experienced this?
As others have stated, you will need to use an authenticator app. I use Passwords since I use an iPhone. It is free. Google Authenticator is also free. But even still, I can't get into the Beta site. I know Instructure sent out a notice this week that the issue was fixed, but our admins still can't get in. We've been working with Instructure to get this fixed. They said they are having their engineering team try to figure it out. If you still can't access after using an authenticator app, I'd suggest reaching out to Instructure.
Beta and Test do not send communications (email, sms). To use MFA on beta, you can to set up your account on production to use an authenticator app (like Duo, Google Authenticator, etc) where you can use the timed codes from the app instead of getting a One Time Password. Then you just have to wait for Saturday's beta refresh for production change to be available for use in beta.
While it might not be applicable in this situation because of beta being used, I would like to mention that there is currently an issue with MFA and sending out SSM messages.

Thank you!
If you don't mind me piggybacking here a bit — has Canvas removed the ability to reset MFA for admins who login with username/pass via their profiles? I no longer see that option but the documentation still shows that it should be possible. Reached out to support and they seemed similarly confused so they had to escalate it.
In Admin settings, I see the pic below. So it looks like it is required, i.e, can't be reset?
You should still be able to reset MFA for a specific user account if they are using Canvas authentication. I believe that Canvas user account is required to reconfigure MFA the next time they attempt to log into Canvas.
And it still doesn't send in beta.
Hi @ggongwer,
As @Robert mentioned a few days ago, Beta/Test don't send communications, so you'll need to use an Authenticator app instead of relying on text codes in order to get into Test/Beta with Canvas MFA enabled.
While I don't work for Instructure, I have a feeling this functionaloty is unlikely to change in the near future.

So I have to pay for an app just to login to my account. I find that highly annoying.
Are any of these apps free tht you know of? The ones I have looked at all charge. Frankly, I don't like the idea of having to pay just to login to my account.
There are a lot of free authenticator apps that would work with Canvas. Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, and Apple Passwords are a few choices from large corporations, but I know there are plenty of other choices.
I use Google Authenticator because (1) it is free and (2) my institution uses Google and (3) the codes sync with my institution's Google account (which is protected by our SSO provider).

Hi all, When uploading a SCORM package and outputting as an assignment, full screen works within the package. However when outputted as a page, it doesn't. Anyone found a getaround that isn't "just use the assignment option??"

Our institution is setting up 9 institutional outcomes in Canvas. Several of our outcomes have multiple skill sets within the rubric. I am just curiousas to why there is not a field to enter a description for an outcome at the account level? Or at least edit the rating when you attach/link an account level outcome to a rubric. When you create a new criterion for a rubric, you enter a decription for a rating, but for an account level outcome.
We use a pre- post- model to measure learning which requires student-question matching from two time periods. This requires exporting quiz data to CSV to do the analysis properly. (I can get into more detail if needed.) The New Quizzes Student Analysis CSV export has repeated blocks of ItemID then columns related to that…
