The new log-in system is super infuriating.

Question

The new log-in system that opens a new tab to handle log-in is super infuriating, if you happen to leave a canvas tab open anywhere you get incessant new tabs urging you to log in every time you open the browser. and if you actually want to log in these [darn] tabs rarely work and you can't even reload the original tab to log in. Please just let me log into the tab when I need it. When loaded it could update to prompt you to log in, preserving the last state like a sane website rather than this [nonsense]. I compulsively close down any open canvas tabs now to stop it from spamming tabs anywhere.

Also the good [darn] game thing when you fail to log in take over my keyboard as I try to write this report infuriating me even further.

To make things even worse I had to retry sending in this ticket several times (I even got a 429 Too Many Requests (Rate Limit Exceeded)  error). I never succeeded.

In the end I had to dump the ticket here in this open forum, which is insane.

Please try harder.

Hi @LoginIsBad,

You may not realize this, but you've posted this to the Instructure community, a site generally comprised of other Instructure product users from around the world.  Peer users here can often offer advice, tips, and even help troubleshoot issues sometimes.  While there are some Instructure employees that interact here occasionally, the forms are not generally a place to interact with Instructure about system issues, that should always be done through Canvas support.

With that being said, as a Canvas admin for my institution, I don't know of anything on the Canvas side of things that would force a login to open in a new browser tab.  That actually sounds to me like it's something your school/institution has configured their login system itself to do, so I really think you should reach out to your school directly for this, rather than canvas support.  If that's what you tried to do and were getting the additional 429 error issues, I apologize, but that again would be a local issue with your school that nobody here could really assist with.
