This behavior has been resolved and deployed to the production environment as of 3/11/26
Summary:
Audio files uploaded or created in Canvas' RCE are downloading as m4a files throughout Canvas.
Expected behavior:
Audio files should download as mp3 files.
Steps to Reproduce:
- Have a course with at least one student in it and an assignment that accepts media and/or file uploads.
- As a student, create and submit an mp3 audio recording to the assignment.
- As the teacher access the submission in speedgrader and download it. Note that it downloads as an m4a file
