Is there a Canvas AI that can generate Canvas quiz from a Word quiz?

Question

I have several paper quizzes on Word.   They are mostly multiple choice, some multiple answer, and the occaisonal true/false.  Is there a way to have these converted into a Canvas quiz?

This would be easier than my currentl method of cut/paste or laborious typing.

It's not direct from Word, but we've had good success using this text2qti converter. It takes a .txt file and turns it into a QTI file that can be imported. (So it does require a largely manual Word to .txt step.)

If it's mostly MC and/or a Python-based script tool is a bit more trouble than it's worth, New York Institute of Technology has developed a similar web-based tool that can turn plain text into a QTI likewise given particular formatting.

I built a tool that handles exactly this, it's called

Here's the workflow that would work for your Word quizzes:

1. Use the AI Helper to generate your questions The app has a built-in AI Helper page that gives you two ready-made prompts you can copy and paste into any AI tool you already use (ChatGPT, Gemini, etc.). You paste in your quiz content from Word (or attach the document), and the AI formats everything into a structured spreadsheet for you - MC, MR, T/F, all supported. No manual formatting or special syntax required. Rough descriptions work fine.

2. Upload the spreadsheet Once the AI gives you the formatted output, you download it as an Excel file and upload it directly into the app. It validates everything automatically - question types, answer choices, correct answers - and flags anything that needs attention before export.

3. Generate & import to Canvas From there, you generate a QTI package (the standard format Canvas uses for quiz imports). You can either download the .zip and import it into Canvas manually, or if you connect your Canvas account, push it directly.

The whole process takes a few minutes per quiz, and it handles the question types you mentioned (multiple choice, multiple answer, true/false) plus short answer, essay, numerical, and more.
