Our teachers regularly use comments in assignments to communicate with students. Good interaction! But, although students can see that there's a new comment in the browser Canvas under Recent Feedback, that doesn't exist in the mobile app. Also in the Inbox, they can choose to see Submission Comments in the browser, although that's less helpful since most don't know about this feature - but the teacher could at least include info about it in their courses. It's not available in Inbox in the mobile apps. This is true for teachers too.
Which means only if the student has setup notification preferences for submission comments will they get an email or push notification on their phones, which is more limiting, and then it's hard to find the actual comment. We've found students often turn notifications off because they get too many (teachers too for that matter).
The mobile app needs more ways for students to know there is a submission comment for them to read, please, Instructure.
