Rename Students

Question

Hi!  This is my first year using Canvas FFT (I've used not-free Canvas for a while through a different institution). When I added students at the beginning of the semester, I identified them by first names.  I've had a new student join with the same first name as another student and I'd like to go back and rename both students to include their last names.  I can't find where to do that.  Can someone help?

Hi @bmdepas,

I don't believe you'll be able to do that as a teacher.  You'll need to direct the student(s) to change their name info by following the Updating my displayed name in Canvas - Instructure Community guide (I'd direct them to change both their full name and display name to ensure it displays properly everywhere).

Hi there @bmdepas ,

You cannot change the name of your students on free for teacher. You will have to ask your students to change the name for you.
