Student Permissions for Clubs

Is there a way to create a student role with permissions to edit and create modules or moderate grades. It would be an ideal solution for clubs that are run in Canvas. It might be something where the course itself has to be identified in an alternative way.

@olsons1 - understood. By having a separate subaccount for clubs, you are able to adjust permissions for course roles. Create new course roles and base them on the student role and assigned the desired permissions such as editing pages, etc. That way the 'create courses' permission will not carry forward from the root account settings page as you are not using a Teacher course role.

Hello @olsons1 - Using Canvas for student clubs is a fine approach. My first suggestion is to create a subaccount for these club courses as doing so will permit creation of custom permissions for course and account roles. It also serves to group them all together.

I also suggest that club officers determine roles for the Canvas course such as who in the club would have edit, enrollment, announcement, etc. rights. If it were my responsibility, I would set it up so the Club President and Vice President had Teacher permissions, and the other officers and other members who need edit rights were enrolled as TA's. But then again, as you have a separate subaccount you could be very precise and intentional with the naming and permissions of the course and account roles. For example, if you had a President and similar course roles they could appear as such in the course People list.

ps. I am not sure this is an Impact question. I am thinking it is more of a general Canvas LMS question.

Thank you, @Jeff_F my concern is the role of teacher within a course follows them in Canvas. They can then create a course and add other students to the course. I have had middle school students do this. If putting them all in one sub-account with that role limits the permissions, I could consider this.

I have Canvas set to drop the lowest quiz score, however, my students can only barely tell that the grade text is slightly grey when dropped. Can it have a tag like the "missing" and "exempt" ones in the student gradebook?
