Hi folks
Just wondering if there is a plan to add chapter functionality (similar to that in YouTube and Microsoft Stream / ClipChamp) to Canvas Studio?
This would really expand usability of Studio videos for owner / creators and users.
I would be interested in knowing (and having) this too.
With that said, in general (and I know this is different from how a lot of other content - podcasts, TV shows, YouTube videos - is created and consumed) it is recommended that educational videos be "chunked" and most studies/research or guidance says anything between 6 minutes and 15 minutes is good but nothing more than 20 minutes.
While it is still possible for "short" videos to have chapters, I am not sure how helpful it would be.
My preference would be for it to be possible to turn a Canvas Studio collection into a playlist because separate videos in a playlist can serve a similar purpose as a chapter.

Thank you @RaeJobst-GU for your contribution to the Community. Your post is a suggestion to make Canvas better, and Instructure this year has improved its process for collecting ideas like yours. This is called the Canvas Collaborative Roadmap, and that is the best place to share your proposal. That is where Instructure’s developers go to be inspired by folks like you. For more information about the process, read the the blog post by Instructure's chief product officer, Shiren Vigiasingam.
I’m going to mark this response as the answer to your question. That will help others find the best place to support your contribution and keep this space focused on questions and answers for what we can currently do in Canvas.
I'd also be curious about this! @Akos Farago, do you have any insights on this?
Thanks for the detailed reply Doug - a playlist would be another great feature.
Having the ability to add chapters and have a playlist gives flexibility. Searchable transcripts would be another feature that would give users another way of engaging with video and audio content.
Let's go with adding all 3 functions!
It is also important to consider how use of media changes over time - the impact of platforms like Tik Tok plus emergence of podcasts can influence how people engage with videos in our content.
You are welcome, @RaeJobst-GU!
If you have not gotten a chance yet, take a look at the two posts below.
Hot off the press! Thank you!
