Have Canvas use alt text already embedded with image

Hello, I would like for Canvas to use alt text already embedded in images so that I do not have to enter this each time I use the image in Canvas, or so that it is easy to edit what alt text already exists. Canvas uses the image filename as alt text by default and there is no way change it. In addition, naming a file using the alt text is not feasible nor useful to organization. What is the best way to a) either get around the default, or b) change Canvas so that this is an option? Thanks!

I agree with the need for alt-text to be recorded against the image file. I posted this exact request a few weeks ago! Right now, the only way to manage alt-text is by manually adding it, every time you re-use the image.
