When students submit a written sample, how do I return it to them with my edits?

I've been using the free Canvas (canvas.instructure.com) for many years, but never to help students improve their writing.

My student submitted a writing sample, and these are the edits that I made in Canvas:

My student cannot see these edits. How do I return the comments (other than, say, emailing a screenshot).

Hi @rquinn1,

Could you verify if your students are following the steps in the How do I view annotation feedback comments from my... - Instructure Community - 523 guide to see your annotated feedback? They certainly should be able to see the annotations you have made if they look in the right place. If your annotations are totally invisible to them (after the grades are posted, I believe that's a requirement), that would sound liek a bug to me. My guess is the students might just not be looking in the right spot to see your annotations.

Those instructions did the trick, thanks @chriscas! The students had to open it up & choose "view feedback."
