I Can't Find my Admin link in my courses

Question

I opened my Canvas account for my course about 5 years ago. In my courses I made myself the Teacher, but now I need to add new roles in the courses and I can't because I don't have admin status. I don't even see the admin link in the Global Pane. What can I do?

Hi @PastorT,

If you don't see the admin link on the global navigation menu, that is pretty much a confirmation that the account you;'re logged in with does not have admin privileges.

Could you have used a different login/account for your admin access 5 years ago?  If not, are there other admins at your school/institution who may have removed your admin access for some reason?

In addition to what @chriscas said, I wanted to add on.

If you created your own account back at that time, it sounds like you may have registered with Free for Teacher. Free for Teacher is a free service provided to educators that only provides course-level admin functionality. The feature your looking for only exists at the account-level, which is something only Instructure employees have access to. You are not able to create a new role as a course-level admin only, regardless if you are using FFT or are a teacher associated with a paid instance.
