Our middle school is just moving to Canvas from Google. Would you suggest that we have student complete the Passport to Canvas for students? If so how long would it take the average student to complete?
Thanks
Susan
Hi @SusanFinley6
We have had our students complete that course before and it was really beneficial as they transitioned from Google Classroom to Canvas. I don't know what your schedule is like, but we utilized homeroom time for a the first couple of weeks of school (our middle school homerooms meet daily for 25 minutes). I think it took most students 7-8 homeroom periods to complete, but of course some worked through it more quickly than others. Overall, both students and teachers found the time spent to be valuable.
Hi there @SusanFinley6 ,
I would definitely recommend using that course, or, Building with Canvas, to help your students familiarize themselves with Canvas. While I can't give you a specific amount of time it will take, because it can vary from student to student, you might be able to get it done in a morning. Our school also had it set up so students can go in and do it self-paced, too.
Best,Noah

I've seen old posts regarding this question. Can Admin users generate pairing codes on behalf of students?
It is possible to import tags or other metadata when importing in a QTI file? I've tried everything I can think of, but it seems to get stripped out every time. Are any metadata types allowed? I can bring in a batch of tags questions or manually tag each one. Tagging each one is not an option. I'm using New Quizzes, so I…
I'm testing whether Mastery Paths can be used to give students early access to an item based on their score, while making the same item available to everyone else on a later date. Here is my setup: A 4-point assignment is the source for the Mastery Path. Students scoring 75–100% are assigned a Solutions item. The Solutions…
I am a physics teacher at a high school. I love to use the random generation of formula questions to give each student a unique quiz/test. However, units in physics are extremely important. In the past I have also used Moodle as an LMS and they included a feature that could grade the units listed after the numerical…
