How unthoughtful is this decision to move Analytics hub under APPs ONLY!
It could not get any worse for Canvas. Why your designers think this is such a brilliant idea to restrict analytics view to merely sys admin role? Why can't you think that this is a useful feature for business stakeholder teams?!
Hi @shirin_bayat,
I'm wondering if theres a little confusion here... Analytics Hub is mot moving as far as I know. The Monitor tab for the Apps area is actually new functionality that has never really been available before for external tools. As an admin myself, I'm very happy Instructure has developed this new tool to give us some insights into external tool usage.
Your school/institution/organization can grant access to this new area of Canvas to account level roles of their choosing, so it doesn't have to be only available to full root account admins.
I hope this additional info may be helpful in some way.

Hi @chriscas
Strangely I cannot add any screen shot in this content editor but we have a notification in our Canvas analytics hub which clearly says "The LTI usage dashboard has been moved to Canvas Apps".
And Canvas Apps is ONLY available to Canvas Administrators so we cannot allow permission to our business stakeholders to view analytics.
Thanks
I'm still a bit confused by your terminology. The Analytics Hub is only available to administrators, just like Canvas apps is. I think what you may be saying is that specific admin roles in your instance are able to view the analytics hub, but can't see the apps ares because of permission issues, is that right? The apps area does require a role to have the "developer keys - manage" permission, which I can see some places not wanting to give out as much as the analytics hub permission. I suppose a new permission, something like "LTI - Analytics" could be useful here instead of relying on the developer key permission, or perhaps even the existing "Analytics - view pages" one. That could certainly be submitted as an idea, although I don't know how quick Instructure would act on it. This would seem like a somewhat simple fix, but it would mean adjusting who can see the apps menu to begin with, and then which tabs of the apps area are seen, so it could be much more complicated to code.
If others absolutely need to see the analytics right away, maybe your team could discuss letting those users have the developer key permission, with a strict understanding those users shouldn't make any developer key changes.
Hi @chriscas when we click on Monitor LTI usage under accounts/1/analytics_hub , it directs us to /accounts/1/apps/monitor which is under Apps in the admin dashboard. Apps is a feature which is merely for sys admins and should not be available to our business stakeholders. however, LTI usage has valuable information for ALL our business stakeholders which allows them to make decisions based on LTI tools usage. Business stakeholders are the decision makers to purchase new LTIs or decommission LTIs not sys admins, and the fact that Instructure have moved this valuable feature away from them, is shockingly disappointing.
Is there a permission for sub-account admins to access Apps > Monitor? The menu item is there, but it's not clear what the permission is.
