How to add phone number as alternative contact method?

Question

I am a student and new to Canvas; I have added a secondary email for notifications, but I cannot enable SMS notifications. I have gone to account > settings > ways to contact > other contacts > + contact method, but the only options available are "email" and "slack email". I have tried searching other settings in case I need to enable additional permissions, though I wasn't able to find anything through that route.

Hi @JacquelineBraun,

SMS notifications were removed from Canvas way back in 2020 (see  Canvas Release Notes (2020-05-16) - Instructure Community - 261698  for more info).  If you install the Canvas student app for either Android or iOS, you'll be able to configure the app to give you notifications once you log in to it.
