I do not know how to get Canvas on my Macbook

I wanted to pop in and let you know that you can access Canvas on your Macbook through any of the supported browsers listed HERE. Every school/institution has their own defined instance/URL of Canvas and the directions to login vary for each one. If you are having trouble figuring out how to login, I would recommend reaching out to your institutions technology help-desk for further assistance and directions.
It's worth noting that there is not a Canvas application you can download for Mac since you access the LMS through your browser.
The applications that exist and are managed by Instructure (The makers of Canvas) are only intended for use on mobile devices for Android and iOS.
