I would like to add a word document with my course description and syllabus in its entirety into Canvas, and excerpts from syllabus into Modules. Modules seems to ask only for download. How do I get an excerpt of a words document into a module?
Hi @JimWascher
I've seen your posts before, and I know that you are new to Canvas.
Here's the deal: You need to bite the bullet and start creating content within Canvas. You are spending a lot of time and energy trying to create and bring in content from MS Word. It's so much easier just to create content within Canvas. When you try to copy and paste content from MS Word, the formatting is going to be screwed up. That's just the way it is.
Does your institution offer any courses in how to use Canvas? Once you get some training and feel more comfortable with this LMS, you'll be fine.
Hi @JimWascher ...
Just to piggyback on what @SusanNiemeyer has stated, you're going to have a much easier time building your content in directly in Canvas and not linking to Word documents that already have your curriculum in them (if that is the case for you). I wanted to direct you to a set of videos on Ashlee Espinosa's YouTube channel that are quite good. She really takes the time to walk you through a lot of the Canvas basics...including creating course content. If you have the time, it's well worth it. Here's a link to her playlist channel:

I hope this will be of some help to you!
@JimWascher
Here's Ashley's video on creating your syllabus in Canvas. She actually shows how to start with your MS Word syllabus and then edit it in Canvas.

I think you'll find this video very helpful. Good luck!
Has anyone run into issues with Speedgrader erroring when opening a student submission from a dropbox? See image for error information. I accessed this directly through the gradebook and instructors are getting the same message.
My class policy is that late assignments can be accepted at professor discretion, but they will have a 50% penalty. This is a gate you pass through once, and there are no further penalties. If it's late, you simply get 50% deducted from whatever the score was. This happens regardless of whether it's 5 hours late or 5 weeks…
Teachers often assume that because an assignment is a groupassignment, they will automatically grade it per group via SpeedGrader. With the option “Grade students individually”, they think they’re simply assigning the group grade to each individual student — without realizing that this option actually requires them to…
Hi There, We are in the process of transitioning to Canvas this year and were wanting to connect with any other MYP schools to see how you setup Assignment and grading under your modules. Or you could guide us to any resources you may have.
In the "How do I use the Learning Mastery Gradebook" page, under "Student scores" (https://community.instructure.com/en/kb/articles/660932-how-do-i-use-the-learning-mastery-gradebook-to-view-outcome-results-in-a-course#view-student-scores), the displayed gradebook shows a little colorful square and also points for each…
