Bulk update and clean up of courses/students sis id

I have inherited a mess of different course and student names, sis id's missing and no consistency or pattern to them.

Is there an easy way to bulk update all course details, or student details?

I'm thinking a way of downloading a csv, doing manual/auto updates in excel, and then reuploading to the system- but I'm not sure or confident if this is possible, let alone the best way.

Open to all ideas of how people have solved this issue in the past.

I Apologise that your instance is messy.

One thing that came to mind while reading over this post as a "best place" to start was with provisioning reports. I will usually use provisioning report to try and figure out which users are not associated with a SIS ID. Provisioning reports will allow you generate a CSV for users, courses, enrollments, etc. This should give you a more detailed look at the users and courses that exist in the account that could be missing sis id's and such. It should be formatted in a way that would allow you to make the changes to the users/courses sis id's and reupload them with a SIS Import.

Your CSM might be able offer other suggestions on how to get your account cleaned up so that everyone has a SIS ID and such.
