Change New Quizzes option to open in new tab

I created a quiz in Quizzes 2. Originally, I checked the box to have it open in a new tab, however, I'd like to change that and uncheck the box. After going back to the editing screen, that option is no longer available. Is there a way to change this without having to completely redo the entire quiz? Picture provided below:

@tinberst The option to open in a new tab is there for external tools (LTIs), however this option doesn't apply to New Quizzes. Even though you checked that box, the quiz will open in the same tab in the browser. It will not have the course menu on the left side though. Here is what the student view of New Quizzes looks like.

It's indeed possible to configure a new quiz to open in a new tab. I'm looking at one such quiz right now.

I have the same question as @tinberst and hope someone can weigh in on it!

I had a question from an instructor today about this issue, and could not figure out HOW they had even made a New Quiz open in a new tab. Turns out they made an assignment, selected "External tool" from assignment type, and selected an option called "Quizzes 2." This was the original way of making a Canvas New Quiz.

We have now deleted this option from the list of External Tools. However, there does not seem to be a fix if the person selected the assignment to open in a tab before they selected the Quizzes 2 tool. I will be following up with support@instructure.com to see if they have any ideas.

Yes, it is several years later (2021 to 2025) and I have the same question. Does anyone know to change a New Quizzes quiz from opening in a new window without recreating the quiz?

Hey there.
Here is a way I found to do it.
You would have to export each out out as .qti files then import then into an External Tools assignment connected to Quizzes 2 (New Quizzes) with the open tool in new tab option on.

So go to Quizzes then click the three dots for the quiz and choose edit. Once within edit mode for the new quiz click on Build. Go to the three dots on the right and pull down to Export Content. When done, don't click on the link that the pop-up shows but just click on the tab for Exports and Export the QTI zip file for the quiz to your desktop.

Then make a new assignment using the External Tool which is linked to Quizzes 2 (New Quizzes). Once you select Quizzes 2, go back and click on the option to load the quiz in a New Tab and save the assignment. When you edit the new assignment which now looks like a new quiz, you then load the .qti file from the current quiz into that new quiz and you are all set to go.

It is klutzy but not as bad as it looks…
