Could Instructure please update us on the status of Free-for-Teacher?

It's not clear why there is such silence regarding the Free-for-Teacher accounts. Will they be available or not? Many of us relied on Canvas to teach classes and grades are now due, with deadlines for completed grades due right away.

We know about the page with the updates, which only says that FFT is not available. We would appreciate more solid information with some kind of estimate about when it will be accessible.

Hi @Mark_S1 ,

According to Steve Daly's message on May 8, the shutdown is only temporary to allow security upgrades to take place. To my knowledge there hasn't been a specific date or time announced for when FFT will be fully back online, but I do know they are working hard to get FFT back up and running.

They recommend checking out this page for updates, despite these updates not being specific to free for teacher only. Security Incident Update & FAQs

AS far as I know this is covered in the FAQs , the question is Canvas available explains the most recent information.

As I noted in my original post, we know about the FAQ pages and Update pages. They are not helpful in regard to FFT. I am looking for new information that has some actual updates, as well as what assurance Instructure can provide for the future. I think many of us are already looking into alternatives for next year.

Unfortunately no direct updates have been provided about free for teacher from Instructure. While there is no information on the FAQ document now, CEO Steve Daly's message on the Canvas homepage states that's where they will be releasing those updates. https://www.instructure.com/incident_update#:~:text=We%20temporarily%20disabled%20Free%20for%20Teacher%20while%20we%20complete%20a%20full%20security%20review.%20We%20know%20that%27s%20disruptive%2C%20and%20we%20didn%27t%20make%20that%20call%20lightly.%20But%20keeping%20the%20entire%20Canvas%20platform%20secure%20has%20to%20come%20first.

Your frustration is valid, and I'm in the same boat as you.

I agree. Grades are due soon for us, but no response at all from anyone at Instructure. Our district has already told us that we are not permitted to use Canvas for next year because of the "instability of the platform." We've been working for 3 years now to convince the district to purchase an actual canvas paid account, and the fact that I have no information at all to offer about the status of our courses (myself and the other teachers piloting with the free accounts) has solidified their decision to NOT pay for it.

It is a good thing you and I are still able to log in to this community to ask questions because, to my understanding, many other FFT account users are locked out because they cannot sign in through Canvas to ask these questions. So their cries for help will not be heard.

I've loved and been thankful for the excellent support given to me by the Canvas team throughout the last two years but at this point, their hands seem tied.

There has not been a single day I woke up since 7th May without checking my phone to see if Canvas is back yet.
