Course and participant Limits?

Can someone please explain the rationale behind creating a limit on the number courses and participants that a teacher can have in the new Canvas Lite? To be blunt, this is going to really screw over my class set ups. I have 3 "courses" that are 6 different periods combined. Those periods combined can reach 90+ students and my smallest combination (2 periods combined to 1 course) is still at 61 students, well above the 50 "learners" limit that this new Lite is placing on us.

What exactly is the purpose of the restrictions other than to make our lives more difficult?

Building off of this problem, the limit of 50 is hard stop because now you can not put each class into a section to be able to compare data between groups also. Its to small to be able to combine more than one section of a class. The class limit is not really usable with sections anymore making the sections useless.

Thank you for responding! Here is a breakdown of my courses:

* Freshman ELA (3 class periods mixed into 1 course. Each period is 28-31 students, so a total of ~90 students.)
* Sophomore ELA (2 class periods mixed into 1 course. Each period is 29-31 students, so a total of ~ 60 students.)
* Junior/Senior ELA (1 class period with 29 students)

We have students who move between class periods at the quarter break and then again between semesters, so this setup allows me to keep them all in the same course without needing to move a student into a new course every new quarter/semester. The 50 student limit will not let me have all of my classes on Canvas, even though I only have 3 courses, because even if I combine 2 periods (like my sophomore class), I can't get under the 50 student limit with any of them.

Thanks for the details you shared. That's very helpful. Could you tell us more about how your courses are set up? Are all three combining multiple periods into one course?

We're also curious how you'd approach this if you were building it from your side. For example, would splitting your combined periods into separate courses work within the 5-course limit, or is there a reason they need to stay merged? I'm going to invite some of the Community Coaches into this conversation too, since they see a lot of different course setups.
