Has anyone found another viable option for an independent teacher needing an LMS? I see some posts about Google Classroom, but frankly I'm not a fan.

Is there another free LMS that is available to us since Instructure won't have anything available for us before classes start in the fall?

Schoology and Thinkific both have a free plan.

I’m not a fan of Google Classroom either. I have set a Moodle instance through Bitnami on Amazon Web Services. It wasn’t too complicated (I watched an YouTube video used AI to help). In some ways Moodle is better than Canvas. You can use H5P and it has a Lesson activity that is kind of like adaptive learning. I bought a domain and pointed it at my public IP. The domain costs $12 per year and the Moodle instance should be somewhere between $10-$20 per month for 30 students on the site at the same time (this will be confirmed next semester). There are other ways to set it up that could be cheaper - look at Moodle Cloud or hosing via Oracle Cloud Free Tier. It not free Canvas but I am in control of it.

I checked into Schoology, but their free version appeared to be a trial period. The same is true for Thinkific.

Well…that's not free, but seems to be a low cost option. Not sure how user friendly that is, since most of us are looking for a sign-up and go kind of model.
