This behavior has been resolved and deployed to the production environment as of 6/29/26.
Summary
When using a test student in Beta: test student highlights text on a Canvas Page with Notebook enabled, the "Mark unclear" and "Mark important" options appear in the selection popover. Clicking either option produces no visible result — the text is not marked, no entry is added to the Notebook drawer, no error is shown. The interaction silently fails.
Expected Behavior
The selected text is highlighted with the chosen tag (Unclear or Important), an entry is added to the Notebook drawer for the current course, and the highlight persists across sessions.
Steps to reproduce
- In Canvas Beta, open a course with Notebook enabled at the account level and Wiki Pages enabled in course navigation.
- As a student-role user, navigate to a Page.
- Open the Notebook drawer from the top-right toolbar (drawer opens correctly).
- Highlight any text in the Page content.
- The "Mark unclear" and "Mark important" options appear in the selection popover.
- Click either option.
