Hello Canvas Community! đź‘‹
If you’ve ever spent hours tweaking HTML just to get a simple card grid or accordion to look right in the Rich Content Editor, I have something exciting to share with you.
I recently developed Canvas Designer, a browser extension that acts as a visual builder right inside Canvas LMS. It's designed specifically for educators and instructional designers to create amazing, interactive content in seconds—zero coding required.
✨ What’s included in Beta v0.1.0?
- 🧩 15+ Ready-to-Use Components: Quickly insert cards, hero banners, accordions, progress bars, buttons, and more directly into your RCE.
- 🎨 Fully Customizable: Adjust colors, sizes, borders, and fonts through a powerful, user-friendly design panel integrated right into your browser.
- đź’ľ Unlimited Templates: Build a layout you love? Save your favorite combinations as templates, export them, and share them with your colleagues.
- 🔒 100% Secure & Private: It works completely offline. Everything is saved in your own browser—no external servers or databases required.
🚀 How to try it out
Since this is a fresh Beta release, it isn't in the Chrome Web Store just yet. However, you can easily install it in 4 quick steps using Developer Mode:
- Download & Extract: Grab the
.zip file from the repository and extract it to a safe folder on your computer. - Open Extensions: Type
chrome://extensions/ in your Chrome (or Edge/Brave) address bar and press Enter. - Enable Developer Mode: Toggle the switch in the top right corner.
- Load Extension: Click "Load unpacked" on the top left and select the folder you just extracted.
🎉 Done! Next time you open any page editor in Canvas LMS, you'll see a new floating "✨" button in the bottom right corner ready to help you build.
🤝 Open Source & Feedback
Canvas Designer is 100% free and open source (MIT license) developed by myself, Pablo G. GuĂzar.
I would love for you to try it out! Since it's in Beta, your feedback is incredibly valuable. Let me know what you think, report any bugs, or suggest new components you'd like to see in the thread below! 👇
